 Dear Tatay and Nanay,

We adore you both.  I'm sure Danny and Geli agrees with me.  After 35 years of being together, through the good times and the bad, we thank you for being there for us 3.  And now that you are Lolo Ben and Lola Sue to our kids...your grandchildren...you are still continuing being parents to them the way you were with us.

Thank you for taking care of us, the way you did...it wasnt always rosy, our relationship but we were able to see through the clouds after a while.  We had LOOOTS of tough times...especially because Im a hard-headed first born (hehe)...but you stood by me.  And now that I have my own kids, I totally understand why you did what you did.

We cannot thank you enough.

And by seeing you still together after these years just make me wonder...where did Tatay buy that special potion she let Nanay drink? Hehehe

We wish you both a loooooot more years together to cherish so we can all celebrate all the Christmases, the birthdays, the anniversaries...TOGETHER!

And Tatay wrote on his email to me last sunday:


The whole day was spent just like any other sunday.

We woke up around 7am; swept clean our surroundings to include Tricia's and Pito's abode; had breakfast consisting of hot goto with very generous sprinkle of pepper, calamansi and special patis, big hot pandesal with butter, sandwich spread and CHEESE, butter cookies and nice hot great taste of coffee; a quick shower, special attire for the occasion (this time the shirt was tucked in), then off for the mass.

After the mass home again; read newspaper, fill the puzzles and sudoku; monkey around; play billiards, answer all fathers day texted greetings; clean the dogs' mess; buy your nanay's needs for cooking then presto, lunch is ready: steaming white rice, bulalo with pechay baguio and saging na saba, patis with calamansi and sili, boneless bangus foil wrapped and fried (incidentally the word wrap reminds me of Nico singing and rapping), kalabasa con hipon dumpling, pineapple juice with ice and to top it all, TOOTHPICK, a post lunch siesta, then coffee.

Then Makay arrives making the day a very special day. She brought a fathers day card addressed to Lolo Ben but I'm sure there is a grandparents day. She sat on my lap, her pampers smell. Off she went for pamper change. She paraded to and fro. How I wished that  Bambino and Ninja  were also here to share the moment. So we exchanged pleasantries with Makay.

But I had to leave at about 6pm to join my senior citizen colleagues. We chatted till 8pm about the same things but told at a different angle. Usually one of the topics is about health.

Come to think of it, this turned out to be a special day after all.

But nobody knows what the next day will bring.

The 4Ns Playhouse: It's done!

Hi You All!

We gladly announce that our Playhouse is finally finished!  Aside from a few small things here and there...it is as we can call it, READY FOR USE!

Even when it was raining like hell yesterday, Opa and Papa set forth!  They have fought the pouring rain just to finish the roof.

Then today, Niels and Nina helped Papa put the grass and soil back onto the holes...so now our footprints are hidden...and that will become our family secret. "Ssssshhhhh!"

We were thinking of a name for the house this morning but cannot come up with a good one.  

Papa said, "Heb je al een naam gedacht voor ons speelhuis?"

"Maar is het een jongen of een meisje?" Niels asked.

"Het speelhuisje is voor jongens en voor meisjes." I answered

"Melanie mischien?" he said

"Het naam moet voor een jongen of een meisje zijn" I explained

"Uuhm...Niels en Melanie?" Niels answered witfully

"Dat moet zo als Mickey Mouse Clubhouse zijn" Papa explained

....and a lot more came up but we have not finalized yet which one to use.

Niels' party with his classmates by the playhouse is getting closer so we have to hurry up and do the final touches!

The 4Ns Playhouse: An update

As promised, here is an update on the construction of our playhouse.  Its getting its form and almost...ALMOST ready to be used!  90% of the time Niels and Nina cannot wait and already wants to go on top even before the stairs were even installed.

You see, these things still had to happen:

The staircase had to be assembled and screwed on the playhouse.

To make sure that Papa and Opa fixed the staircase good against the playhouse, we need to test it.  Any volunteers??? No need to raise your hand, just get upstairs!  And we learned Nina to do the steps one by one.  And now everytime she goes up or down the stairs she says, "Een per een".

And who doesnt want to go down anymore?  Nina was decided, and I think even before she went up there, that she will NOT go back downstairs!  And there she sat...as if she doesnt hear us when we call her to go back down.  Just an itsy-bitsy-hard-headed-charachter showing up too early!  I guess apples do not fall far from its tree.

Anyways, she had to go down cause Opa and Papa had to work again very soon.  They still had to install the railing for the staircase.  Have to be screwed real tight, otherwise it defeats its purpose...

Now its time to put the poles up.  And this had to be done in precision!  So all hands on deck!  All eyes sharp and start working!  This stage took the longest time but it was worth it!

And once again, every phase has to be tested. Now we only had Niels to do the test cause our little princes was sleeping. But GOOD! otherwise she will be sitting up there again! Hehehe

Now the cement has to be put into the potholes to have all poles sturdy and strong...good enough to carry about 100kg of meat moving up and about the whole piece!

Niels also helped good on flattening the cement...we also did leave our shoeprint on every hole.  And Nina knows exactly where her print was ;-)

And the last one for today, the slide!  Papa finally screwed the slide!  Nina loved it!  Niels said "Ik durf het niet" in the beginning but I think he was just joking!  Cause he flies like crazy down that slide...and in all different positions possible!

14 June 2012...

Mama installed the swings and the climbing ladder:

I bet when Nina comes home tomorrow she will never come back inside the house, she would not want to get off this swing!  Lets just hope that the weather is nice tomorrow.

Schoolfeest Hand-in-Hand

Last saturday was Niels' first ever schoolfeast!  Its not only him that was excited, everyone was cause its the first time for him to dance with his whole class infront of all, for us mama and papa to attend for the first time our own son's schoolfeast!

Niels broke his record of keeping secrets.  Their act for this feast has been out of the question for quite a loooong time.  Everytime we ask him what they are going to do for school he just says we will dance. 

And then we ask "How are you gonna dance?" 
"Ik weet het wel maar ik vertel het niet!" 

Thats the answer we get all the time. Up until the very last minute, he didnt say anything at all.

Nina was looking forward to this feast as well especially since Jules may come with her in her buggy on the way to Niels' school.  When we got inside the school premises, she immediately saw the carousel and was attracted to it like a steal to a magnet!

Parents may also volunteer to bring some cakes or any sweets to be sold at the cafetaria, so I voluteered to bring a cake and 12 pcs of cupcakes to school.  Hardwork you say?  No, hard FUN!

And here goes the story of the schoolfeast (in dutch):


“Hand in Hand” bestaat 10 jaar en dat moet gevierd worden.  Een heel groot feest met alles daarop en daaraan!


Maar Juf Katleen heeft wel veel hulp nodig om dat te realiseren.  En hulp krijgt ze, van alle juffen en alle kleuters!


Kleuters van Juf Sara en Eliane zorgen voor de taarten en gebakjes...MMM LEKKER!

Kleuters van Juf Roos (Niels zijn klas), Ida en Jessica zorgen voor goede muziek...zodat we straks LEKKER KUNNEN DANSEN en ZINGEN!

Op naar het podium getrommeld, HEEL geconcentreerd!

Niels heeft alle pasjes heel goed uitgevoerd!

Maar Nina wil ook het dansje van Niels niet missen, dus Papa heeft haar op zijn schouders gezet. Niels heeft daarna gezegd dat ze Nina gezien heeft!

Kleuters van Juf Marlies en Inge (Arthur en Xander hun klas) zorgen voor de drankjes...GOED MAAR WANT MET ZO EEN MOOI WEER KRIJGEN WE WEL DORST!

PAUZE is ook nodig om alle dorsten te lessen en alle lege buikjes te vullen.

Na het apotheose is het tijd om self te spelen! En hij verdien het wel!

Nina at 20 months...

Most kids would cry and lie screaming on the floor if they are summoned to go to the naughty corner...Nina is something else...she does things and tells us, "Mama, Nina hook staan"  And she goes there herself and faces the wall.  And when I call her to tell her that she should not do (whatever she did) and that she has to say sorry (to whoever she did it to) she immediately says "Sorry, Niels or Mama or Papa"

Unbelievable, we have to think of something else for this little BIG girl!

For the rest, she is such a sweetiepie, an intelligent kid like her brother and so adorable...if only I could eat her!  She has the most contageous laugh (Niels had the same when he was her age).  She has the perfect pronunciation of Niels' name than any other 20 month old girl I have ever heard.  She has the biggest appetite ever!  But of course, like any other girls, sometimes cranky too.  Oh wel, she also has her low days that's for sure.

This afternoon, Nina had a "dikke lip".  She fell with her face straight to the floor making her lip bleed like hell, while she was stepping out to the terrace to see our neighbor Louise.  And oh she cannot drink anymore, she doesnt dare drink her milk, she doesnt dare touch her lip with anything (only with her fingers) and then she cries "PAIN!!! Nina pain!!!"

Anyway, she can carry it good, with thick lips, she is still cute!  Wrestling with Niels in her bedroom and tickling Niels' "Dikke buik"  Wanting to "koprol" like Niels, and copying everything that we are doing (and you know me and Niels, we do lots of crazy stuff!)  For that she doesnt care but when you remind her of her dikke lip  she say again, "Nina pain!  Nina dikke lip!"

Our little girl stays at 11kilos, she is as active as any girl of her age can be...and even more.  She is now probably about 82cm?  Not really sure cause we havent been to the clinic for a while now.

Her vocabulary is excellent for her age, her sentences are already with 4 words, sometimes a whole story already.  Her comprehension really good.  And her motoric skills are excellent as well.  Just hope she doesnt get sick anymore like what happened to her last time.  Poor thing. 

We hope that Nina stays healthy and keeps on growing good.  I could already put a clip on her hair (to my delight!!!! I was waiting for that for 20 months!  So I hope you understand my excitement)

We only wish that Lolo and Lola could see her again in person.  So they can give her as much hug and kiss as we do.

Weekendje uit naar Niels zijn thuis

01 juni 2012, vrijdag.

Eindelijk was het dan zover.  Ik had heel lang gewacht tot ik met Niels mee naar huis mocht.  Vrijdag na school wandelden wij met de andere kindjes naar ‘De Petteflet’ waar Niels zijn papa hem komt halen...maar...naar waar rijden wij nu?  Dit is toch Niels zijn thuis niet?  OH JA!  Niels moet eerst gaan tennisen!

Niels zijn papa moet vertrekken om Nina te gaan halen. De mama van Niels komt ons halen; ze kijkt nog even vanuit de kantine naar de tennisprestaties van mijn vriend Niels.

Niels heeft gedaan met tennisen, hij was heel moe maar had nog de energie om mij een dikke knuffel te geven.

We stapten in de auto, gordels aan...en nu naar de...winkel!

Niels zijn mama zei : “kindjes, we gaan vandaag onze boodschappen moeten doen want morgen is het heel druk.“ Morgen is het namelijk schoolfeest bij Hand in Hand en komen Oma, Opa, Meter Vicky, Nionkel Danny and Celeste naar onze school om te kijken!!!

Eindelijk waren we thuis aangekomen.  Niels heeft mij daar uitgebreid aan iedereen voorgesteld.  Ik heb Nina ontmoet, de kleine zus van Niels.  Zijn Papa, die me onmiddelijk een high-five heeft gegeven.  En zijn Mama, die heeft me een handje gegeven.  We hebben eventjes buiten gespeeld want de soep was nog niet klaar.

"Hupsakee!"

"Lekkere soep Niels, mag ik nog ballekes hebben?"

Een beetje rusten in de zetel terwijl Niels en zijn Papa naar ‘Battle Force 5 ‘ kijken.  Het was wel een echt drukke dag vandaag hé! 

En om 20u was het tijd om boven te gaan.  Tijd om mijn valies boven te brengen en alles klaar te maken om te slapen...

 

Boven moeten we eerst onze tandjes poetsen.  Niels en Nina hebben een lekkere warme douche genomen terwijl hun mama mij gewassen heeft met een washandje. 

Tijd om onze pyjamas aan te doen.  En oh kijk!  Ik mag Nina’s poppenbedje gebruiken tijdens mijn verblijf hier!  Met een kussentje en een deken allemaal voor mij! DANK U WEL!

Niels heeft mij wel een beetje geholpen om mijn pyjama aan te doen. Hij heeft ook zijn eigen pyjama zelf aan gedaan!

Samen met Nina hebben wij mijn boek gelezen, en gelukkig maar hebben ze dat alle twee ook heel leuk gevonden!

Na een liedje zingen (Twinkle Twinkle Little Star) heeft Niels en Nina mij een zoentje gegeven op mijn hoofd.

2 juni 2012, zaterdag. 

Vandaag zal het weer een drukke dag zijn want vandaag is het ... SCHOOLFEEST!

Ik heb heel lekker geslapen vannacht.  En deze morgen waren we heel vroeg wakker.  En voor ontbijt hebben wij een sandwich en een beker melk gekregen.  Lekker!  Ik heb het helemaal opgegeten!

En daarna heeft Niels zijn ipad aan mij laten zien, en ik mag ook drukken op het ipad ding!

Toen Niels zich moest aankleden om op tijd naar school te gaan, mocht  ik met Nina aan de kleine tafel gaan zitten en hebben wij een lekker chocolade eitje gegeten.

Toen het tijd was om te vertrekken moest ik (van Nina) in de hoek gaan staan want ik wil mijn schoentjes nog niet aandoen.  Ze willen echter niet te laat komen op het schoolfeest.

Het was heel mooi weer, Niels en de andere kindjes hebben geluk gehad!  Ik wil ook mee dansen maar  dat zou een beetje moelijk zijn voor Niels.  En Niels, ooh hij heeft HEEL GOED gedanst, getrommeld en gemarcheerd! DUBBELE DIKKE DUIM! Daarna was ik in slaap gevallen in de buggy samen met Nina...met mijn mondje open!

Toen we thuis kwamen moeten wij allemaal gaan eten, maar Niels was zo moe dat hij na één hapje in slaap is gevallen.  Toen het tijd was om naar boven te gaan was Niels wel wakker en heeft hij mij met een klein beetje hulp van oma klaargemaakt om te gaan slapen.  We zijn allebei onmiddellijk in slaap gevallen want mijn maatje en ik waren heel MOE!

TOT MORGEN!

3 juni 2012, zondag.
We waren vandaag niet te vroeg wakker geworden want we waren echt moe gisteren. Het weer is ook niet zoals gisteren want vandaag regent het!  MAAR dat betekent niet dat we ons binnen niet kunnen amuseren!  We hebben gekleurd en met de blokjes gespeeld!

Niels heeft zijn grote doos met houten blokjes genomen en hij heeft een mooie brug voor mij gemaakt.

In de namiddag zijn we naar Niels zijn Oma en Opa in Balen gegaan.  Ze waren zooo lief voor mij.  We hadden niet zoveel kunnen doen maar toch hebben we plezier gehad met het speelgoed dat daar allemaal staat.  Morgen is het weer maandag en dus tijd om terug naar school te gaan. Ik zal Niels en zijn familie missen maar vclgend weekend krijg ik ook weer een leuke familie om te bezoeken!
